Abstract

In the traditional history of architecture, the importance of practical-technical aspects as a factor in relation to form in housing developments has not always been sufficiently stressed. This article focuses on how the need of heat, light and water has served a design and organisational purpose in relation to the planning and use of the dwelling. The title was assigned as the subject for a lecture in conjunction with the defense of the Ph. D. thesis held at NTH in Trondheim on 17 September 1993.
