Tracing Competition Rhetoric

Abstract


This paper explores the rhetoric involved in architectural competitions based on Norwegian cases from mid 20th century up until today. How does the promotion of the best projects reflect prevailing values? From the preoccupation with health in the early Welfare State to the inflation of landmarks of todays diffuse power relations, the successful competition rhetoric also appeals to consensus.
