Kanon og kvalitet

Abstract

Canon and Quality
The question of architectural quality is centrally placed into a long
tradition of discussing whether there can ever be an objective basis for
architecture or it is a matter of personal taste and thus subjective and
more or less mystic. This article explores the underlying assumptions
for the question of the universal objective rules for architectural quality
by analyzing the recent Canon of Danish Art and Culture and the
concept of taste. It becomes evident that there is an underlying span in
the understanding of architectural quality and other aesthetical matters.
The notion of a span both contains and transcends the poles of
subject and object and constitutes a more valid point of departure
for the examination of the phenomena referred to by the concept of
architectural quality.
