The Faculty of Landscape and Society at the Norwegian University of Life Sciences (NMBU) seeks a Head of School of Landscape Architecture. It is a full-time position for a period of four years, with a possibility of a second period.

The Faculty of Landscape and Society has 1300 students and 180 staff. It contains of five departments carrying out research and education in landscape architecture, urban and regional planning, real estate management and law, international environment and development studies and public health science.  The School of Landscape Architecture currently has 41 staff, 7 PhD students and 290 students. The School offered the first landscape architecture programme in Europe from 1919, and is Norway’s main academic institution for education and research in the field of landscape architecture. The department consists of five units: Landscape Design and Construction, Urban Green Space Management, Landscape Theory and History, Landscape and Community Planning, and Environmental Horticulture. The School also hosts a plant nursery and the Centre for Landscape Democracy.  The School of Landscape Architecture currently offers two study programmes: a five-year Master programme in Landscape Architecture and a three-year’ Bachelor programme in Landscape Engineering. The School leads and participates in national and international research projects and is an active member of the European Council of Landscape Architecture Schools (ECLAS), and will host the ECLAS conference in 2019.

Main responsibilities

The Head of School reports to the Dean of the Faculty and is member of the Dean’s leadership group.

The employment is a full-time position with options for research and teaching.

Requirements

• The Head of School must hold a PhD and/or be recognized at an international level within landscape architecture, architecture, landscape planning or closely related fields.
• Applicants must be able to document successful experience in university leadership or equivalent high-level experience from leading organizations focused on research and development.
• Preference will be given to those who can demonstrate a dynamic breadth of interest and a track record in both landscape architecture practice and academic research.
• Proficiency in English.
• Competence in a Scandinavian language.

Desirable Qualifications

• Documented pedagogical experience and qualifications.
• Experiences in strategic planning, personnel leadership and organisational development.
• Experience with active promotion of an inclusive work environment and gender equality.
• Able to inspire and motivate colleagues.
• Experience in confidence-building and developing internal and external social networks.

It is a prerequisite that the person appointed resides in a location that enables her/him to be present at the institution on a regular basis.

Remuneration

The position as Head of School is for four years, with the possibility for renewal. The salary is NOK 702 000 - 835 500 depending on qualifications and experience. For particularly competent applicants, a higher salary may be possible. A compulsory contribution of 2 % will be made to the Norwegian State Pension Fund.
